On 20 June 2026, three generations of the Kangamiut Group ownership family visited the Greenlandic settlement of Kangaamiut - the place from which both Kangamiut Group and Kangamiut Seafood originally adopted their name.

 

As part of the visit, Kangamiut Group presented its annual charitable donation of DKK 50,000 to a selected worthy cause. This year's recipient was KTVI (Kangaamiuni Timersortartut Volleyballimik Ingerlatallit), which translates as Volleyball Practitioners in Kangaamiut and is the town's vibrant and highly successful volleyball club.

 

Although Kangaamiut is home to just 306 residents, both the women's and men's teams have competed in the Greenlandic Volleyball Championships on numerous occasions. The women's team has reached the national finals six times, claiming the Greenlandic championship title four times. The men's team has also enjoyed remarkable success, reaching the national championship finals twice.

During our visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Marianne, the chair of KTVI and a member of the recently crowned Greenlandic champion women's team; Barnabas, the team's coach; and Maria, the club's financial manager.

 

Together, we watched a recording of the deciding set from the latest Greenlandic Women's Championship final. It quickly became clear why KTVI enjoys such unwavering support. As Marianne, Barnabas, and Maria explained, whenever the Kangaamiut teams compete - whether in Nuuk, Sisimiut, or Ilulissat - they are accompanied by so many loyal supporters from their hometown that every match feels like a home game.

KTVI is much more than a successful sports club. With a large and active membership, it plays a vital role in promoting both sport and community spirit in Kangaamiut. At the club's most recent Saturday family volleyball event, an impressive 17% of the town's entire population took part.

 

In a small settlement with only a handful of active businesses, securing funding and sponsorships to participate in regional and national competitions is no easy task. Kangamiut Group is therefore proud to support a club that contributes so significantly to the community and serves as a source of pride and identity for the people of Kangaamiut.

 

We extend our sincere thanks to Marianne, Barnabas, and Maria for their warm hospitality and generous welcome. We look forward to following KTVI's continued success and wish the club every achievement in the years ahead.
