Carbon Emissions
Carbon Emissions
At Kangamiut Seafood, we are working to understand and reduce our carbon footprint. As a seafood trading company, our direct GHG emissions — from for example offices and company cars— are relatively small. Most emissions associated with the products that we trade occur upstream in the supply chain in fishing, farming, and processing. This is demonstrated in the carbon life cycle analyses conducted by 2.0 LCA (link below) for two of our main products, cod and shrimp.

We actively monitor and measure our Scope 1 & 2 emissions and are committed to strengthening our GHG data to include Scope 3 estimates in the future so that we can provide customers with transparent, product-specific carbon emissions information.
Our Scope 1 & 2 carbon emission reduction actions to date include:
- Transitioning to fully electric company vehicle fleet by end 2025
- Energy optimisation at company-owned facilities
- Installation of solar panels for electricity to run our buildings and net zero charging of our vehicles
To supplement our carbon emission reduction efforts, we are simultaneously working on carbon capture through our Kangamiut Green Land forest generation and preservation projects. The key phases in this initiative have so far been:
- 2021: Acquisition and protection of the 38 hectares forest “Dronninggård Skov”, 2 km from our headquarters
- 2023: Acquisition of 76 ha local farmland for afforestation and nature reestablishment with completion of the afforestation phase (> 60 hectares of trees planted) including the establishment of 3 lakes in 2024

We realise that these steps won’t eliminate the total carbon footprint of our products, but we believe that action, improving data, and supporting transparency are essential to driving progress.
