In the Kangamiut Group, we are experts in global partnerships within seafood thanks to our profound product knowledge, reliable delivery, and swift response. We have been providing the world with quality frozen fish and seafood for almost half a century.
It all started in 1975, when “Kangamiut Fish Trade” was founded by Niels Vinther Rasmussen as a partnership with Jørgen Urne who at the time was based in the little settlement Kangaamiut on the west coast of Greenland. In 1985, Niels acquired Urne’s shares in the company. Since then, Kangamiut has developed into a major, renowned player on the global seafood scene.
Today, the “Kangamiut Group” is the mother company while “Kangamiut Seafood” remains the main subsidiary, which along with a handful of our other subsidiaries is co-localized with the Kangamiut Group in Northern Denmark. In addition, the Group comprises several significant subsidiary and associated companies around the world. Altogether, the Kangamiut Group delivers more than 100,000 tons of quality seafood every year.
Our business model is based on partnerships: The companies in the Kangamiut Group are typically co-owned with local management. Each company operates independently while enjoying synergies throughout the group – and embracing our original family values: responsibility, reliability, and respect. These values are preserved and nurtured as Kangamiut remains a family business, owned by the late founder’s wife, son and two daughters.
As a supplier and distributor of frozen fish and seafood the raw material of our business is, of course, the catch from the primary fisheries. However, our main strength as a reliable collaboration partner in the fish & seafood supply chain is the people: Our trusted suppliers; our dedicated employees and colleagues; and our valued customers around the world.
